Welcome to Shrawley WalkersShrawley Walkers meet every other Wednesday.
Normally the walks are in Worcestershire, they vary in length from about 3 to 5 miles and are taken at a fairly gentle pace. Longer walks are sometimes planned for the more adventurous but details of these are given in advance so members may decide for themselves if they would be too challenging. Walks almost invariably end at a pub where a pleasant hour or so is spent eating, drinking and generally socialising. Regular members take it in turn to 'lead' the walks. This means that they are given the responsibility of holding the map but slight deviations are the norm! There is a 'voluntary' donation of £1 from each walker (and dog) which we give to charity. In the difficult Covid dominated year of 2020 we donated £600 to the Foodbank, splitting the rest between the Motor Disease Society, Birmingham Children's Hospital, St Richard's Hospice and Starlight. As we were not walking for most of this time this meant we had to be creative in our Fund Raising and we were delighted to raise this sum. Since starting in 2000 the Shrawley Walkers have raised a total of over £12,000 for charity and have walked 2,180 miles. Various other Social Events take place during the year. We have our 21st Anniversary dinner in the Spring followed by our usual Mid-Summer’s Day Supper, Harvest Home Supper and the Shrawley Walkers Christmas Dinner. We also have an annual BBQ. For the year of 2021 Alan Wild produced another Walkers Calendar recording events throughout 2020. This is a great success and has now become an annual occurrence raising a significant amount of money for donation to charities. As you will probably have gathered this both a walking group and a social group. However all Shrawley residents are most welcome to join us on a regular or occasional basis. It is a great way to meet people especially if you have recently moved to the area. If you are new to the group please give us a ring to let us know that you are coming. (Should you then be unable to make it we would appreciate if you would ring Alan’s number so that we don’t wait for you). |
