Henry Thrupp was the Licensed Victualler of the Lenchford Inn, coal and cratewood merchant, and farmer. Although it seems likely that Henry Thrupp had his own cart and horses, coal for Wood House was collected by Allen Medlicott from the yard. As well as his coal yard, the Lenchford had a timber yard for cratewood and a wharf for loading barges on the Severn. 300 yards downstream from the Lenchford was another coal wharf for the use of the Witley estate of Lord Ward. He negotiated sales of poles with the copper refining works in Birmingham.
He was son of Joseph Thrupp, blacksmith, who was the elder son of James Thrupp, blacksmith.; baptised 22 September 1846.
1845 May 27, his grandfather old James Thrupp the Blacksmith, was buried age 73.
1851 age 4, living in Bayliss Cross with father Joseph, blacksmith age 41 and mother Frances age 37, younger brother Joseph (2 ) and sister Mary (1). At this time Joseph’s younger brother James was Licenced Victualler running The Lenchford with wife Ann and son James (3).
1855 James Thrupp was buried age 44.
1860 2 July Henry’s father Joseph was buried age 52.
1861 census: Henry age 13; the smithy has been taken over by Henry’s cousin, young Joseph Thrupp. Henry’s widowed mother Frances has taken over The Lenchford from her brother-in-law James.
1863 22 October his mother Frances is buried
1871 age 24 Innkeeper and Coal merchant, living in the Lenchford.
At some point in time he took over Court Farm and became farmer as well as his previous occupations.
1881 age 34 Licenced victualler living in Lenchford with wife Lucy
1891 age 44 Licenced victualler & coal merchant, living in Lenchford with wife Lucy; Has taken on Albert Oakley age 18 as assistant.
1898, marries Eliza (28), daughter of John Wanklin, boat owner
1901 age 54, coal merchant living in Lenchford with new young wife Eliza age 31 and daughter Frances age 2.
1904, died 23 September age 58
1911 census: The Lenchford has been taken over by Thomas John Pitt age 27.
